The Rev. Chris Barrigar
Chris has been Incumbent (Pastor and Rector) of St. Peter's since August 2004. Born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Chris grew up mostly in Ottawa and England. At about age 12, while living in Ottawa, Chris committed his life to Christ. Following High School he attended the University of Toronto where he did his B.A. in Political Science and Commerce. After working for several years as a truck-body assembler and as a real estate agent, Chris did his M.Div. and Th.M. degrees at Wycliffe College, University of Toronto, including a year of studies and travel in Asia.
During his years of study and travel, Chris faced a variety of challenges to his beliefs, and for a period of time renounced his faith. Nonetheless, for a range of reasons, Chris eventually returned to Christian faith, and so he speaks of having had two conversions to Christ - his first at the age of 12, his second at age 27.
Chris was ordained in Toronto in 1989, then served as Associate Priest in two parishes in the Anglican Diocese of Toronto, after which he moved to Montreal to do his PhD in Philosophy and Religious Studies at McGill University. While studying in Montreal, Chris met Fiona Crossling, and they were married in 1995.
In 1998 Chris and Fiona moved to India (first Bangalore then Chennai) where Chris taught theology and philosophy in several institutions, and where Fiona managed an NGO in Bangalore and later a software company in Chennai. They also helped to plant a church in Bangalore. While in India they adopted their two children, Devadas and Amudha, then returned to Canada in 2004.
Stephen Mullin, M.Mus.
Stephen Mullin has been Music Director of St. Peter's since September of 2005. He grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia, moving to Montreal in 1990 to continue his studies in music.
Stephen's interest in music began at a very early age, starting piano lessons at age six, taught by his older brother who was 10 at the time. He moved on to study under the Royal Conservatory system and later obtained his Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance (Dalhousie) and his Masters in Music Composition (McGill). Married to Caryl in 1992, they and their two daughters (Camryn - 2000, Riley - 2003) have made their home in southwest Montreal ever since.
The Church has always played a central role in Stephen's life. His family always attended; first at the United Church and later at the Pentecostal Church. As a university student, his involvement in IVCF (InterVarsity Christian Fellowship - www.ivcf.ca) played a major role in starting a process of expanding the denominational boundaries to which he had grown accustomed. Working with Christians from other countries and prospectives served to open up his heart to the possibilities of how diverse can be our meeting with God in collective worship; an openness which has animated and enriched his Christian life ever since. In this spirit, Stephen has been a key contributor to events and projects intended for audiences as diverse as the Christian Church itself including United, Pentecostal, Anglican, Catholic, and Baptist projects and conferences.
Stephen served as Music Director of Lakeside Heights Baptist Church, Point Claire, Quebec, from 1993 to 2005. In addition, he has produced numerous CDs ranging from choral classical productions, through to French Radio pop music to contemporary worship CDs and children's music. Stephen has composed or arranged for nearly every orchestral instrument and has himself performed on an array of instruments including Piano, Keyboard, Pipe Organ, Gospel Organ, Bass, Drum Set, Acoustic Guitar, Mandolin, and Ukulele. Live concert dates have found him in such diverse locations as the Toronto Jazz Festival, the Big Boss worship festival in Switzerland and concert venues in France, Guadeloupe and Martinique.
In addition to all of this, Stephen runs a media company, Studio du Chateau (www.studioduchateau.com), which specializes in music recording and video production. Productions from this company have been seen or heard in Canada, United States, France, Australia and the United Kingdom.
Don't hesitate to contact stephen (email@example.com) to inquire about music at St Peter's Church.
